Mansion of Snakes is a 10-piece behemoth playing earth-shaking afrobeat, devil-funk and cosmic jazz. Following their eponymous EP and 2018’s 7” single Mating Season the band released their long awaited debut LP M.O.S on 01/11/19.

Fronted by singer and percussionist Vanessa Rani Chutturghoon, the band has developed an album of razor sharp riffs and politically slanted lyrics, building on their love of 1970s Nigerian and Ghanian afrobeat but also drawing from Talking Heads, Funkadelic and Sun Ra.

In March 2017 the band released their eponymous EP into the wild, followed by a season of incendiary festival shows at Shambala, Greenman Festival, Kendal Calling, Beatherder and Smugglers Festival.

Searing horns and afro-funk bass conjure up a police chase from Lagos to Brazil on 2018 single Mating Season, as guitar solos duel with furious percussion. Released on 7” vinyl by idie label Come Play With Me, the track has repeated plays on BBC 6 Music and BBC Introducing.

First single from M.O.S, ‘Concrete Money’, is inspired by the gentrification of Deptford South East and the ensuing social injustice. Supplementing their established sound with the angular funk of New Yorkers Talking Heads and ESG, the band drives a pulsing rhythm behind Vanessa Rani’s impassioned social commentary.

“Mansion of Snakes carry the same genre-blindness as early eighties’ post-punk/new wave outfits like Maximum Joy and Liquid Liquid, extracting pure glee from diverse influences including Fela Kuti, Pharoah Sanders and Funkadelic” M-Magazine
